INSPIRATION: ROMANCE ON THE HIGH SEAS!

It’s a cold and blustery day today, the kind where your bones shivers and a hot cup of tea just won’t cut it. But all this horrible rain has one upside (if you can call it that) it has me summer dreaming. That’s why I’ve been inspired to create this nautical board even when it’s ship-wrecking weather out there.
What I love about the nautical theme is that it’s so much more versatile and playful than it sounds. You can channel it with some well-placed stripes and navy or go for a totally different palette and plenty of driftwood. You can see what I mean in the images below.
I’ve also included three of my favourite bridesmaid dresses for channeling the nautical theme, the Davina and Bailey (both in Midnight) and the Dani Long in Sea of Love. Yep, that’s right, the Sea of Love. You can’t get more nautical than that!

“Beautiful. It was the Augusta Jones Lois gown from Brides of Beecroft. Relaxed chic, stylish bias cut lace wedding gown with a V neck that is mirrored front and back. Soft tulle wraps around from the front to become flowing ties on the back (one of the main reasons I feel in love with the gown). The neckline, hem and train are all edged with a lace scallop. It was the only dress that I didn’t want to change a thing on. I also changed into a gold sequin floor length dress half way through the ceremony. This was my party dress. I toyed with the idea of wearing a gold sequined wedding dress but didn’t want to regret not wearing a more traditional gown. My mum found my gold dress while I was changing out of my wedding dress. I fell in love with it and was lucky enough to be able to wear both.”

Once upon a time, I used to assist an über talented interior stylist called Jason Grant on photo shoots. It was (and still is) his job to create beautiful rooms out of thin air, turning an empty studio into a chic living room/study/bedroom. And one of the biggest lessons I picked up was that it all came down to the finer details. Sure the big furniture is important, but it was the little touches that pulled the look together and made the “room” complete.
